This is a report about my diving in
the Bali Sea in february 2002. Since 1990 I had travelled
to Phuket, Thailand every year one
or two times and was on Similan/Surin and Hin Daeng liveaboards since
1994, thus I liked to see another area, too to have new adventures.
Like
the most of tourists I stayed in a
Hotel in the south of Bali, in Nusa
Dua.
in february there are the rains in
Bali,
thus there is a very strong current
at
Nusa Penida Manta Point - located
Bali and Lombok, as a result it's to
dangerous to dive there in this times.
In Bali I was informed about that diving
in Menjangan Nationalpark isn't the
best.
An information what is in opposite
to
the publicity in brochures read at
home
and in Bali, too.
May be this bad information is guilty
during the rains only.
In the northeast of Bali I was told
on the other hand, in the area of Tulamben and Amed it's
be said to are the best dive destination
of Bali island.
To the rains is to say that I stayed
12 days in Bali. During this time it was one day which was
a really rain day all the day long.
Most of the time there were rain and thunderstorms during
night followed by sunny days with little
rain periods.
After I entered my name at a dive base
there by phone, I was picked up 7.00 a clock in the
early
morning I have had a very interesting
drive from the south of Bali to northeast
through a very beautiful country.
It was very strenuous, not at least
as a
result of the long distance and the
way
to drive of the people there..
Immediately after arrival introduction
and briefing was followed. About a
half
hour later there was my first dive
in the
Bali Sea, "Tulamben Wall".
In opposite to my dives in the Andaman
Sea, Thailand were the begin of the
dives
at the shore, not by jumping from ship,
"shorediving".
In the dive base we put on wetsuit,
belt with lead, the shoes for fins. Fins, mask and uw camara
was put in the hands and then we walked
about 200m coarse dark gravel to our starting point.
The tanks with the rest of our gear
were balilike transported on the head of female native
assistants and were ready for dive.
