diving the Bali Sea
The first 10 meters it's flat until 5 to
7 metre depth. Here were already some fishes to see,
the ground is dark volcan ash thus
the visibility from 2 to 3 meters quickly went until zero
if anybody will touch the volcan ash
with the fins.
Afterwards
the shore sloped away
steeply, the water go more clearly
and in my mind the visibility was
10 to 12 metre.
The typical tropical fishes and
corals of this area were to see.
At the wall I dived until a depht
of 27,6 m. A little bit away the
reef is 75 m deep, and a short
step later it sloped away steeply
to the depths of the sea.
Short time before we turned
(100 bar in the tank) there were
some great barracudas to suspect
far away.
On the way back I discovered in a gorgonian
fan coral a about five to seven centimetre
long "Anglerfisch" (the fish is to
see above, sorry I haven't the english name present)
and at the end already over the volcan
ash a "Fangschreckenkrebs" (sorry again, it's
to see below).
After lunch we walked again over the
coarse dark gravel, this time in the opposite
direction 100 m to start a wreck dive
to the "U.S.S. Liberty".
It
is unknown whether it's the real
wreck's name or no. It isn't to find
out today. Be that as it may it's a
cargo ship of the liberty class, which
was destroyed by a japan submarine
in World War II in the Street of Makassar.
The americans tried to towed the ship
to a harbour in the north of Bali,
but it
was unsuccessful because to must
water were in the ship.
To rescue the freight they towed the
ship on the shore near Tulamben.
They unloaded the cargo, dismanteld
what were worthy and the "Liberty"
rotted be lying half in the water,
half on shore.
During a volcanic eruption in
the sixties of the last century the wreck was transported
by a large stream of (molten) lava
in the sea. After a long time it took shape to a reef with
corals. It begins at 10 metre depth
and is on a depth of 30 metre at it lowest part.
